The Emergency First Aid at Work for Drivers Level 3 (VTQ) course (EFAW) is designed as a ProTrainings CPD certified qualification, all courses are delivered, evaluated and quality assured to meet the new guidelines set out by the HSE in October 2017 and meet the requirements of the First Aid at Work (First Aid) regulations 1981 and subsequent 2017 changes.

You now have the option to complete your Emergency First Aid at Work course as a blended course, with 3 hours of online training followed by 4 hours in the classroom. Our blended training allows you to learn the theory at your pace, one to one with your instructor at a time that suits you.

This blended EFAW course meets all of the requirements of the HSE and Awarding Organisations and is available as a ProTrainings or Regulated Qualification.

This one day course is tailored to a marine type workplace and will contain similar content that derives from the standard workplace first aid qualifications.

First aid at work for mariners involves providing immediate medical care to a person who has been injured or taken ill while at sea or working on a vessel. The primary goals of first aid are to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery.

Some common first aid procedures for mariners include:

1. CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) - a life-saving procedure that involves chest compressions and rescue breathing.

2. Dealing with bleeding - applying direct pressure to a wound, elevating the injured body part, and using a tourniquet if necessary.

To finalise this part 2 course, it's essential to have completed the online 3-hour part 1 beforehand, and then proceed to book and complete this part 2. This training certificate is recognised by the SIA for individuals seeking employment in the door supervision and security guard sector. All courses adhere to the guidelines established by the HSE in October 2017 and meet the criteria of the First Aid at Work (First Aid) regulations 1981, including subsequent 2017 changes. ProTrainings Vocational Training Qualifications (VTQ) are fully recognised by the HSE as Trade Body Qualifications.

Since May 2016, the HSE and Awarding Organisations have permitted computer-based blended training for all workplace first aid courses. You now have the option to complete your Emergency First Aid at Work course as a blended course, comprising 3 hours of online training followed by 3 hours in the classroom. Our blended training allows you to learn theory at your own pace, with one-to-one guidance from your instructor at a time convenient for you. This blended EFAW course fulfills all HSE and Awarding Organisations' requirements and is available as a ProTrainings or Regulated Qualification.

You now have the choice to complete your Emergency First Aid at Work course as a blended course, comprising 3 hours of online training followed by 3 hours in the classroom. This blended EFAW course fulfills all HSE and Awarding Organisations' requirements and is available as a ProTrainings or Regulated Qualification.

To renew, you must attend another EFAW 6-hour course or blended course, or participate in an annual first aid refresher course in the classroom. The FAW Refresher is completed annually while you have an active FAW certificate that lasts 3 years and this can be done solely online. 1. Bleeding: Apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage to stop the bleeding. Elevate the wound if possible.

2. Burns: Run cool water over the burned area for 20 minutes. 

3. Fractures and sprains: Immobilise the affected area by splinting or using a sling. Do not move the injured limb unless it is absolutely necessary.

4. Hypothermia: Move the person to a warm, dry place and wrap them in blankets or warm clothing. Provide warm, non-alcoholic fluids to drink.

5. Choking: If the person is conscious, encourage them to cough. If they are unable to cough, perform the backslaps and abdominal thrusts if necessary.

It is important to have a well-stocked first aid kit on board and to know how to use its contents. The kit should include items such as bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, scissors, tweezers, and pain relievers and much more. Additionally, it is recommended to have a medical reference guide or handbook on board to help with diagnosing and treating medical conditions.

This option is a part 2 of the full 18 hour FAW qualification. Haemorrhage control and the use of haemostats Gauze course is available in two formats.  The first is the standard ProTrainings Qualification from our national network of instructors and the second from Celox Academy Instructors and this course is approved by Celox and certified through the Celox academy.  The course formats and learning outcomes are the same in both cases.

Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings if used correctly are now allowed to be used in first aid after the recommendations of the 2021 ERC first aid changes and the 2017 Tourniquet changes. Catastrophic bleeding is life-threatening and can kill in minutes so having a fast and effective method of stopping bleeding is a must have life skill in the workplace, out and about and at home.
