Heart disease is expected to cost £15bn by the end of 2014 with billions wiped from British productivity, a new study has suggested. Britain’s healthcare system will see that cost rise 22% to £18.3bn by 2020, the research produced by the Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) said.

Studies showed firing beams of light into the brains of mice led to the animals moving further and faster than those without the therapy. The research, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, could help explain how the brain recovers and lead to new treatments. The Stroke Association said the findings were interesting. Strokes can affect memory, movement and the ability to communicate. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency believes the benefits of alterplase outweigh the risks. But it is revisiting the evidence. Some experts say previous assessments may have been flawed. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges welcomed the investigation, saying the review has “huge implications” for patient safety.
Paediatric qualifications changing to level 3 from 1st September
On the 1st September 2014 there are some changes to the Paediatric Qualifications, they are changing from a Level 2 qualification to a Level 3. This will apply to both regulated qualifications and ProTrainings qualifications. The course content is very similar and the contact time in the classroom or blended courses are remaining the same. ProTrainings will be changing course material to meet the new learning outcomes of the level 3 courses.
